World class commissioning programme

In December 2007, the Department of Health launched World Class Commissioning (WCC). WCC reflects a vision shared across the NHS, local people and other partners in health (such as local authorities or third sector agencies) of commissioning health services that deliver:

  • Better care for all
  • Better health and wellbeing for all
  • Better value for money.

Following the launch of the vision and competencies in December 2007, the Improvement Foundation has developed a World Class Commissioning Programme for PCTs that will enable them to learn from examples of best practice across the country and apply that learning through a structured programme of support. This work builds on our proven track record of achieving systematic improvement in healthcare and health outcomes.

Our support includes:

  • The design and development of the programme for each PCT
  • Dedicated national and local support throughout the duration of the programme
  • All course materials; all speaker associated costs; access to the learning from pilot sites
  • Access to a panel of experts with specialist knowledge in all of the competencies.

For details on the specific support for each individual competency, please view our entries on the WCC PCT Portal that the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement have recently developed.
