30 June 2008: Improvement Foundation supports Lord Darzi’s Next Stage Review

The Improvement Foundation offers support for Health Minister Lord Darzi's newly published ‘High Quality Care for All' Next Stage Review.

In its mission to support service improvement in public services with resulting best outcomes for patients, the Improvement Foundation applauds the Review's innovation and vision of an NHS that works in partnership and has quality of care at its heart.

Melanie Lawless, Executive Director of Policy at the Improvement Foundation said: "The Review mirrors our vision for high quality healthcare with strong emphasis on primary and community services to delivery quality services that make a real difference to health and social care of NHS patients."

The Improvement Foundation will continue to support the aspirations of the Next Stage Review through complementary work themes:

1. Commissioning healthcare services - supports the strategy to improve NHS services through improved commissioning. The Review acknowledges that PBC has not lived up to its aspiration and that the Government will give stronger support to redefine and reinvigorate it.

2. Improving access to healthcare - supports timely access

3. Reducing health inequalities - supports giving greater freedom to communities at the frontline of healthcare delivery

4. Reducing admissions through integrated care - supports the provision of integrated care through improved patient management

5. Improving the management of long term conditions - supports the proposal that everyone with a long-term condition has a personalised care plan

6. Reducing healthcare associated infections - supports keeping patients as safe as possible by combating infections

7. Leadership development - supports the emphasis on raising standards through clinical leadership and management throughout the NHS.
