Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale PCT

The team from the Heywood community decided that taxi drivers were a difficult to reach group at risk of CVD. The team undertook a simple Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle which involved speaking to all taxi drivers at the taxi rank on a given date and time. The activity engaged 10 drivers and found out the following information:

  • Six out of 10 of the drivers were not aware of CVD, and wanted more information.
  • Seven had not been to their GP within the past 12 months.
  • Three had not had their blood pressure or cholesterol checked in the past 12 months.
  • Six were aware that they needed to change their lifestyles.

The findings showed there is a need for more advice and information to be made available to this group of men. The drivers were open to having more information and advice, preferably available at the taxi rank. The group has planned to do this.
